Bobbatlu (బొబ్బట్లు) / Puran Poli

Introduction:

Bobbatlu  is a famous sweet dish of Andhra Pradesh. This is a special dish for the festivals. Everyone likes it verymuch ....since it is a less  fat sweet item.

Ingredients:
  • Chana Dal / Bengal Gram -  1 Cup
  • All Purpose Flour/ Maida - 1 Cup
  • Jaggery  - 1 Cup
  • Cardamom  - 5
  • Salt -  1/4 tsp
  • Oil   -  1/4 Cup
  • Ghee - 1 tsp
Preparation:
  • In a bowl take All Pupose Flour, add Salt & Oil and mix it well . Now  make the it a dough adding enough water and keep it aside for half an hour so that the dough turn soft.
  • Take Chana Dal in a vessel and cook untill  it becomes soft ( you can also use Pressure Cooker)
  • Drain the water completely from vessel once the Dal is well cooked.
  • Now mix the grated Jaggery with cooked Chana Dal and add Cardamom powder to it then grind the same to make small balls (Dal should be completely mashed). Let it become cool for 5 mins.
  • Make equal portions of the dough and Chana Dal mixture (పూర్ణం)
  • Tie a cloth (banian cloth preferably ) to Chapati Board (Chakla)  ...so that the dough will not stick to the Board.
  • Now take one ball of dough and spread it with Belan (అప్పడాల కర్ర )  ( chapati rolling pin) on Chapati Board (Chakla)  in to a small circle and place the 'Chana Dal mixture' (పూర్ణం) ball in the middle of the dough circle . And cover it with dough from all the sides.
  • Take this whole thing and spread it on Chapati Board (Chakla) with Belan (అప్పడాల కర్ర ) ...like how we make Chapati. You can sprinkle  All Purpose Flour / Maida on it .. so that  it comes in round shape without sticking to the Board (Chakla).
  • Heat a pan, place the prepared Bobbattu on it and toast it with Ghee.
That's it ..the Yummy Bobbatlu is ready to eat.
